“The Sardinian saxophone wizard has an unquenchable spirit of adventure and here he is with a new band that makes his music seem even more vital and essential”
Edinburgh Jazz Festival
A busy sounding intersection, where electronic highways connects with desert tracks, hypnotic Balinese rhythms and deafening metropolitan jazz streets: this is the nature of The Crossing, the new project by Enzo Favata. Getting in touch with this band means immersing yourself in a kaleidoscope of sounds and musical styles with multiple shapes. A vortex between minimalism, space rock, contemporary jazz, electronic music and world jazz, combined with the original sound of the Sardinian saxophonist’s soprano sax and bass clarinet, together with the stylistic power of one of the greatest European vibraphone players, Pasquale Mirra, the rock flavor together with the experimental jazz taste of the unmistakable bass of Rosa Brunello and the masterful drums of Marco Frattini. The recently formed band has already had great success with the international public during 2019, the year when they were engaged in long tour in Japan, South America and Europe, hosted by renowned festivals such as the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, the European Jazz Conference of Novara and the Jazz festival of Montevideo. The Crossing project is told by the Japanese press as: “a visionary music, with the wild taste of the Mediterranean, which is linked with the hypnotic rhythms of Ethiopia and the Balinese atmospheres, mixed by a wise use of electronics and improvisation, a poetry with unique sound power”.
